    National Model Aviation Day

    & 2nd annual

    Electrics Over Red Rock Festival

    Sunday, August 14, 2016

Join the Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation and the Las Vegas Soaring Club in celebrating model aviation for the fourth annual National Model Aviation Day, August 14, 2016 at the Las Vegas Soaring Club field in conjunction with our 2nd annual Electrics Over Red Rock Festival.

National Model Aviation Day was created to encourage clubs to celebrate the hobby and share it with the public. Our chartered clubs have also been asked to conduct a fundraiser to provide assistance to a worthy cause. For this year all clubs have been asked to support Disabled American Veterans (DAV). With almost 1,300 chapters and nearly 1.3 million members across the country, DAV empowers our nation’s heroes and their families by helping to provide the resources they need and ensuring our nation keep the promises made to them.

The LVSC Electrics Over Red Rocks Festival is an annual event who's mission is to educate and provide recreational activities for the public to raise awareness about model aviation and aviation in general in a structured environment that promotes safety first.

Know Before You Fly is an education campaign founded by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to educate prospective users about the safe and responsible operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

As excitement and enthusiasm continues to grow around UAS, and the regulatory framework continues to take shape, more consumers are looking to buy UAS for personal use and more businesses are looking to use UAS too. These prospective operators want to fly, and fly safely, but many don’t realize that, just because you can buy a UAS, doesn’t mean you can fly it anywhere, or for any purpose. Know Before You Fly provides prospective users with the information and guidance they need to fly safely and responsibly.

Events will include our famous BBQ, an exciting FPV Wing Racing event, Winch glider demonstrations, a raffle to benefit the DAV and other exciting activities. A Flight Simulator will be on hand for those who wish to fly without breaking anything, or a real aircraft with instructor to help you fly your aircraft or a club plane.

Flying at the LVSC field is open at the times noted on the schedule and several not listed) to newbies with anything electric as well as all other club members with anything electric. We understand many don't fly electric, but at present that's all we can fly there...come anyway. This is an opportunity to make new friends, learn a little bit and enjoy the day...and support a great cause The Disabled American Veterans.

Entrance to the event is open to the public free of charge. There is a small charge for the full BBQ and raffle tickets are $2 each. Tickets may be purchased online at lvsoaringclub.org/store through Paypal or a variety of credit cards (also through Paypal) and at the event.

Bring the kids, chairs and some money. Net proceeds benefit the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the official charity of the AMA National Model Aviation Day.
